Kroger Targets Waste Reduction, RPCs in Sustainability Goals
The Kroger Co. is raising the bar on sustainability goals by upping its commitment to reusable plastic containers.
The Cincinnati, Ohio-based retailer issued its 10th annual sustainability report and also listed several new goals for 2020.
The retailer “aims to ultimately meet and exceed EPA’s ‘zero waste’ threshold of 90% diversion from landfill in our facilities by 2020, according to the document.
To achieve that, Kroger — operating nearly 2,800 stores in 35 states — said it will continue to integrate RPCs into its supply network and test new technologies to reduce waste in the supply chain. The company also set a goal to recycle more than 200 million pounds of plastic and 3.3 billion tons of cardboard by the end of 2020.
