Of Leaders and Laggards
By: Euan Murray, CEO The Sustainability Consortium
This week I made my debut on the main stage at GreenBiz 17 in my new role as Chief Executive of The Sustainability Consortium. I told a story I’ve told many times before: we once asked a supplier about their greenhouse gases. They replied that they made t-shirts, not greenhouses. This story, although amusing, is also alarming. After decades of scientific research, NGO action and consumer pressure, we know that over half of companies still have zero visibility into their supply chains.
It’s both the leaders and the laggards that power TSC and our members. The leaders inspire, push, and move us forward with innovation, ingenuity and a passion for people and the planet. The laggards motivate us to seek the understanding they lack.
The TSC Impact Report, Greening Global Supply Chains, uses data from 1,700 suppliers to quantify the impact of consumer goods supply chains. We know that lack of visibility is the single biggest issue. It is also what makes TSC and our members so essential.
Keep your eye on this space as TSC continues to lead on this issue. We have an exciting year coming up and a new impact report to release this summer. We are proud to partner with GreenBiz again this year. And we are looking forward to improved visibility and more sustainable consumer products for everyone in the coming year.
