CASE STUDIES
THE STORY
The Cold Water Wash project is a partnership between TSC and the American Cleaning Institute to leverage the strengths and the networks of both organizations for collaboration on a common approach to educating consumers on the benefit of using cold water for most laundry loads. The goal was to decrease the environmental footprint of laundry by encouraging consumers to use the cool or cold water setting for most laundry loads by developing a framework and messaging tool box that enables a wide range of stakeholders to communicate this message in a consistent way.
TSC’s collaboration with ACI lets us:
Understand the environmental impacts and efficiencies of cold water cycles for most loads of laundry
Gather the efforts of collective action of individuals who can, together, move the needle on carbon emissions to decrease greenhouse gasses
Help our members increase brand awareness with consumer through education initiatives and events
THE PROCESS
The pilot consumer campaign launched at NC State on November 9, 2016 along with the website, www.coldwatersaves.org. The successful campaign had interactions with over 900 students. Sixty three percent of students surveyed were more likely to wash in cold water after seeing the campaign.
Phase 2 of the consumer-facing campaign will launch at ASU in 2017.
