This past year has yielded lessons learned regarding resiliency of global food systems. We’ve seen firsthand how disconnections between sustainability and supply chains manifest in disruptions, shortages, losses, and food insecurity. In the past year opportunities expanded for growers and companies to take part in regenerative agriculture. With so much change afoot it’s hard to keep track of what is being measured, who is measuring it, and how that gets translated into communications to retailers and consumers about product sustainability. In this year’s workshop we will take a closer look at what is happening both to ensure resilient and functioning food systems in the wake of climate and covid disruptions, what growers are saying about collecting and sharing farm data, and what new opportunities there are to participate in on the ground projects that scale resilient and regenerative agriculture.

Despite the global pressure and corporate commitments to improve the climate change and land use impacts of cattle production transparency into beef supply chains remains notoriously opaque. Across TSC’s Key Performance Indicators scores on beef production remain low year after year. While there is much effort underway to launch industry sustainability metrics in the US, Walmart decided to take matters into its own hands by purchasing beef processing and packing facilities while working with ranchers in their new supply chain to gain an understanding of how sustainable their production is. Hear about this new business venture and the sustainability insights gained from investing directly in their own supply cattle chain.
